Seattle King Street Yard — Airo Maintenance Facility
PCL Construction / Amtrak
Third-Party QA Representative
Current
Context
A new maintenance and inspection facility for Amtrak's Airo trainsets, with pre-engineered metal building steel blasted and coated offsite, then shipped to the yard for erection.
Challenge
HSS beams and columns arrived with surface rust bloom across flange and web faces. Rework had to happen in place, in an active yard, without re-blasting the structure or delaying erection.
Approach
- Supervised in-process touch-up and repair coating directed by the client
- Verified surface preparation and recoat conditions against the original system specification
- Documented each repaired member so the coating warranty position stayed intact
Outcome
Corrosion remediation completed in place under third-party verification, with a documented condition record for every repaired member.
